Autumn Outfit Inspiration

The weather has been changing unconditionally and this past week it has become extremely cold. However the sun also tends to come out, which makes it extremely difficult to choose what to wear during such weather conditions. I’ve discovered that the secret to beating these weather blues are to always wear something pretty under your jersey or jacket, so if it gets hot then you can always take out your sweater and still look pretty.

With that being said I thought I should share with you an outfit post and details that I had worn this weekend for a day out. I opted for grey and black with a purple lippie which complimented and made my look come together.

Outfit Of The Day: Check and Red Lips

Hello Dolls!

I haven’t blogged in forever as I’ve been busy trying to get my degree but now that its in my pocket, I will be having more time to spend on blogging. I just realized that I haven’t did an outfit post and I have been meaning to, so this post will be dedicated to a super gorgeous yet casual outfit.

img_4708.jpg

I absolutely love this outfit, it can be dressed up and down at the same time. I went for an extremely long checked shirt (that is super halaal) and I paired it with a dark blue denim that I folded at the end so that my killer boots won’t be missed!

The print of the checked shirt made it busy but not too loud. Since there was a lot of blue going on, I added these black ankle boot heels which are super comfortable and can be worn during every season of the year! How great is that!

img_20161210_131353.jpg

A black over sized handbag matched perfectly with the boots and helped the outfit come together.

And finally for my hijab, I went for a dark blue scarf that matched with the hues of blue of the shirt. The twisted turban style added a twist to my very put together outfit. My makeup was super subtle so to round off my look I added red lipstick, of course!

NYFW embraces the Hijab

While most of us were celebrating Eid and I was engrossed in the lovely world of assignments, Anniesa Hasibuan made history! I’m sure some of you are not too sure about who’s she and why she’s so important that she deserved a blog post plus respect and awe from me. Well let me clear all that up for you!

Whilst we all were Eid vibing, Anniesa Hasibuan made history by showcasing a hijab collection at NYFW. Yes, NEW YORK FASHION WEEK!! Anniesa is a 29- year old Indoniesian fashion designer from Jakarta, that has been displaying her work of modest wear at various fashion weeks but she certainly reached a milestone when her Spring/Summer 2017 (SS 17) was showcase during NYFW. The fashion industry welcomed this collection with open arms and there was nothing but ravishing about her and her collection.

The designer herself: Anniesa Hasibuan thanks attendees

The collection consisted of evening wear inspired from Indonesia and its fashion, classic techniques and a distinctive touch of the hijab. The hijab was worn with crystal- crusted eye wear, pajama pants and very chic layering. The collection consisted of a vast amount of pastels, embellishments made each garment stand out, silk kaftans and robes were layered in many ensembles. The final piece included an ensemble with multi-colored embellishments and a gorgeous trail with a matching hijab. The designer made the hijab look extremely trendy and a must have accessory this Spring and Summer.

How stunning is the final ensemble! Displaying a hijab collection in one of the most critiqued industries and them actually embracing shows how much we’ve moved forward in terms of modest wear and religion. While countries are banning the hijab, New York chose to be accepting and provided a platform to show the hijab and how it can be worn and still look stylish, chic and beautiful. The Indonesian culture plus the Islamic head scarf mixed with modesty and lots of embellishments definitely made a statement and will be talked about for years to come!

If you want to see more of the show and the stunning garments as these are only a few of the ensembles from the show, then watch the video below:

Colours of 2016

Its the beginning of a new year, and with a new year we give way to new colors. Colors change every year, but some colors are classic, and never go out. In the hotter seasons we move on to bright colors, whereas in the colder seasons we embrace the warmer and neutral colors. Trends are however changing, and its even appropriate to wear something bright in winter and I love that because who wants to wear cool and neutral colors when you can spice things up and still look super gorgeous.

The color palette is perfect, it has just the right mix of colors. This year the colors are not as bold, but they  can make a statement if you let the colors speak for themselves. According to the Pantone Fashion Color Institute, the colors of 2016 are:

Rose Quartz

HER CAMPUS9

Rose Quartz is a very subtle but appealing color. Its soothing and calming, and it can be bold if worn correctly, I absolutely adore this shade. Rose Quartz is a rosy pink, and its intensity can vary from a pale gentle tone to a compassionate rose red hue. This shade of color can be worn differently according to the season and ones skin tone.

It would work well with Peach Echo, Serenity and Lilac Gray.

Peach Echo

Peach Echo as seen in Lela Rose SS 16

I love this color, and I’m super excited to be wearing it this year. This tropical color is a mixture of natural flavors of White Peach and Mango, which resulted into the beautiful tropical color known as Peach Echo. This color has a slight undertone of Rose Quartz but its definitely bolder and slightly more daring. ¬†This shade contains warmer qualities.

It could work well with Rose Quartz, Serenity and Lilac Grey.

Serenity

Miranda Kerr seen in Serenity

Serenity is a cooler shade of blue, its a pretty shade of blue, a kind of baby blue that emanates coolness and serenity. It gives one a feeling of calmness, its weightless and airy .

It would work well with Peach Echo, Snorkel Blue and Buttercup.

Snorkel Blue

Another shade of blue on the Pantone Color Report, this shade however is different from Serenity. This color is relaxing but not as relaxing as Serenity. Snorkel blue emanates boldness, confidence and royalty. With the striking undertones, the color speaks for itself.

This color would work well with Peach Echo, Buttercup and Iced Coffee.

Buttercup

Buttercup as seen on the runway.

Buttercup, also known as a vibrant yellow, contains distinctive characteristics which makes it different from the usual yellow. It has colors of gold yellow, yellow, green. Compared to the other shades, Buttercup is bright and cheery.

It would work well with Snorkel Blue, Serenity and Lilac Gray.

Limpet Shell

Yet another shade of blue, quite different to the other shades of blue. Limpet shell is a shade of aqua, it emanates calmness. Its one of those light and airy colors. It gives one a feeling of being carefree, and its absolutely dreamy.

It would work well with Peach Echo, Rose Quartz and Iced Coffee.

Lilac Gray

ee6fc4b16859cfcb76d9d5948a40032f.jpg

Lilac Gray is an in-between shade, made up of elements of Lavender and Gray. Its a soft, calming color that emanates elegance. Lilac gray has an undertone of lilac, thereby giving an edge to the classic gray. Lilac Gray can be worn all year round.

It would work well with Green Flash, Iced Coffee and Fiesta.

Fiesta

e7b9be1cf21123ecbe09612a72175fe0

Fiesta as seen at Marissa Webb S/S 16.

Fiesta is a bold hue with an undertone of yellow, its a mixture of red and yellow, not as fierce as red but rather more vivid. It celebrates color, encourages adventure, and screams excitement. This color is definitely for the bolder, that thrive on making a statement.

It would work well with Limpet Shell, Snorkel Blue and Green Flash.

Iced Coffee

e3f7af08cb43dd432368ff447e32c654

Iced Coffee is a perfect balance of the natural shades, its a light, subtle shade of a creamish brown. Its a strong neutral color that can be worn throughout the year. It contains natural and earthy qualities with a touch of subtlety.

It would work well with Rose Quartz, Serenity, Lilac Gray.

Green Flash

FlashG-e1444584454100.jpg

The color Green Flash has been taken from the flash of green that occurs for a second or two at sunset as the sun changes color. This hue is natures representation of the environment, that has become quite persistent in the fashion industry.

It would work well with Serenity, Snorkel Blue and Limpet Shell.

Each color on the palette is unique, although it has been predicted Rose Quartz and Serenity will be ruling 2016.

Happy New Year

IMG_20151221_234640.jpg

I just realized that the last time I posted was over a year ago. Yikes! This year I will do my utmost best to make my blog a priority, I’ve been super busy trying to get my degree but with that in my pocket hopefully I’ll be having more time for my blog. I’ve always loved beauty and fashion, and with writing I am able to share my thoughts and views of this, I however haven’t really made my blog my¬†priority but I would like to change that.

Time has gone so fast, it’s already a NEW YEAR! And since its a new year, everyone is going to be making resolutions or even giving up already on them, but don’t fear I’m here to help and inspire you to keep up with those resolutions.

Instead of making resolutions like its a New Year, New Me and you end up being the exact same person you were last year or even worse, instead why not try to work on little things such as your attitude or increasing the amount of times you actually work out, lets rather work on things that you’ve always never liked about yourself or what you do, slowly work on improving it. Work on the little things that you want to improve and slowly move on to your bigger goals. This could be your year if you make it your year. Maybe things are not going the way you want it to go, and you feel like the world around you is crashing, but hey its okay to feel like that, we all need wallowing at times, if you are feeling like that then you should thing about all the good things in your life and the people in it, appreciate what you have and you will realize that you are the luckiest person in the world.

The key to achieving anything is having the right mindset. With a positive mindset one can conquer the world. So lets make 2016 a year that brings out the best in us.

P.S. Please feel free to leave suggestions and comments.

Biggest trends of 2014

2014 is almost over! I still can’t get over how fast it flew by. 2014 has been quite a year, and quite a fashionable one too. Here is a roundup of the biggest trends of 2014.

Crop Tops

celebrity-in-crop-top-trends

This was definitely the biggest trend of 2014. From the red carpet, to the catwalk, to street style, you couldn’t miss this trend. Depending on your body type, you should opt for one that flatters your body.

The Curly Bob

Celebrity-Hairstyles-2014-2015-Jennifer-Lawrence-Short-Haircut-2

A huge trend amongst celebrities currently. The trendsetter for this trend, was none other then Jennifer Lawrence. This trend was so gorgeous, that celebs flocked to their hairdresser to get the cut, even Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha who vowed never to chop her long locks, gave in to this trend and jumped on this wagon. After all short is the new chic!

Ombre

Another hair trend for this year, and I love it! If you not ready for serious commitment to a new hair color, opt for this trend. If the right color is used, this will enhance your features to the max.

Prints on prints

wp_ss_20141230_0002

Prints on prints was probably the best thing to happen to fashion. Stripes on stripes, florals with stripes, polka dots and florals, the list is endless but thank goodness for this trend because now you don’t have to be so matchy-matchy, you can mix prints and still look super fab!

Colour- blocking

celebrities-wearing-bright-colour-blocking-2014Yes, its back and it has never looked this good. A huge trend this year, just make sure when you color blocking with two bright colors, there’s a neutral involved else your outfit is going to be way too loud.

Dark Lips

Shay-Mitchell-braid-makeup-lipstick-hair-2014-Teen-Choice-AwardsDefinitely the biggest makeup trend of the year. There hasn’t been an event this year without someone sporting this lip color.¬†Whether its oxblood or burgundy, you sure will get heads turning with lip color like that, just make sure you choose the right color which will compliment your skin tone.

Has the South African retail industry evolved?

Like any other fashionista and a follower of whatever is going in the fashion industry, each of us want to wear something that is made by a designer, especially an Indian designer. We see these beautiful, amazing Indian wear on the catwalk in India made by prominent designers such as Manish Malhotra, Varun Bahl, Tarun Tahilini etc etc, but as South African consumers can we buy these items in the South African market?

The answer unfortunately is no. Although the fashion market place in South Africa has evolved and many stores sell clothes from international designers, they however don’t stock and sell items of designers from India. Indian fashion has evolved so much and can compete with designers from New York and London Fashion Week so why can’t we also be part of this evolution? I was quite surprised when I learnt that we couldn’t buy any Indian designer wear, as South Africa has like the second largest population of Indians that are out of India.

I couldn’t understand why it was like this and I always thought it was the Indians designers that were not yet ready or were maybe unaware of the clientele here in South Africa, until I had a Google hangout with Mr Sunil Sethi, the head of FDCI (Fashion Design Council of India), and I asked him if it would be possible for the Indian Fashion Industry to move internationally and for us to actually obtain items from designers from¬†India. I was surprised when he answered by saying that the designers are ready, but there’s no one from South Africa who’s actually going to stock the merchandise.¬†The FDCI are happy and willing to supply SA with clothing from these designers if buyers come and purchase¬†items from these fashion weeks and stock them in our local¬†Indian stores. He also encourages buyers from South Africa to attend Willis India Lifestyle Fashion where they will be hosting¬†over 200 buyers from all over the world and¬†be part of this fashion world and purchase¬†Indian wear from these designers.

We sent buyers all over the world but we can’t send them to¬†India? I know of many people who go all the way to India for wedding shopping or for shopping, so why¬†can’t we have all those designers clothes right here at home where we can shop leisurely, and cost wise it would equal to the same¬†or even cheaper with all the airfare and hotel expenses etc¬†etc. Many shops selling eastern wear that are quite heavily priced when instead we could be purchasing the latest¬†Indian designer at the same¬†price or even less and you won’t just be wear a red lehenga for your wedding, you will be wearing a¬†Manish¬†Malhotra¬†lehenga or¬†Neeta Lulla sari. The quality, style and uniqueness of local shops selling Eastern wear cannot be compared to the likes of such Indian designers.

It would be really nice if South African buyers went and actually bought items from designers from India, bridal as well as other items and made it available to South African consumers. I wouldn’t mind getting my hands on a Manish Malhotra outfit without having to spend on airfare and those sort of expenses!
