Product Review: The Body Shop Fresh Nude Foundation

It’s been a while since I last blogged or reviewed a product. So, here goes…

While I was out shopping recently, I was browsing through the skincare range of The Body Shop until this product caught my eye. It was a neat little bottle of foundation.

I’ve always loved The Body Shop skincare products, but I wasn’t too sure about their makeup range, although if they were putting in just as much effort into a makeup range the results would be amazing.

Although there was a tad bit of uncertainty in the back of my head, I thought, “Oh what the hell? The worst that could happen is that it doesn’t work as well as another foundation or doesn’t blend as well but then you can just mix it with another product.”

And well being the being that I am, I know that if it wasn’t according to my liking I would most likely mix with a whole bunch of other products till it came to my liking because makeup is expensive and you can’t just throw products away, especially if its still new.

I ended up buying it.

And to my amazement it exceeded my expectations. (Well, I didn’t have a lot of them anyways.)

The bottle was a tiny bit smaller then the usual foundation bottle, but it was quite neat and the foundation easily came out without creating a mess unlike other foundation bottles. I applied it with a brush and then used a damp beauty blender.

The foundation is a creamy formula, its extremely light weight although it can be buildable but it does feel like your natural skin on your face. I wore it the entire day to work and it felt amazing on my skin. It was also able to cover up everything include the redness around my nose which has become extremely visible lately. It covers all the redness and breakouts without it looking too fake. Its extremely natural and it does make your skin look good without you having to plaster on makeup. Its definitely durable and can last the entire day and night if it is set properly without it getting cakey.

I haven’t even mentioned the best part about this product; it doesn’t have the typical foundation smell but rather a really light, fresh scent and this fresh scent is left on your skin the entire day! I literally, cannot get enough of the smell its amazing!

For dewy, fresh and natural looking skin I would definitely recommend The Body Shop Fresh Nude Foundation.

My verdict: 4.2/5

P.S. I’d love to hear what you think about this product if you’ve tried it.

DIY: Charcoal mask

Hey babes

Charcoal masks are all over the internet and on social media sites! These charcoal masks promises you different and flawless skin and boy! it does live up to those expectations. Long before charcoal masks become a trend I was already experimenting with it and I loved the way it looked and made my skin feel so I made it part of my beauty regiment.

Throughout the day toxins from around the world we live in clog our pores. Once your pores are clogged it has a negative impact on your complexion. When activated charcoal is used in a face mask it helps to pull the dirt out of your pores and makes them less visible; this leaves your face super fresh and a radiant complexion. It also helps with oily skin, activated charcoal can pull the unwanted excess oils from your skin, leaving it super smooth.

Yours truly is here to share one of my favorites which always leaves my skin extremely glowy and fresh.

This mask is extremely easy and you will see a huge difference in your skin.

You will need:

  • Two tablespoons of activated charcoal
  • enough honey to create a paste

I used the powdered activated charcoal, you can obtain activated charcoal at your local pharmacy, if you do have the capsules you can open it up and use the powder within the capsule, however the capsules are more expensive then the powder.

Mix the activated charcoal with a little bit of honey, add more if necessary until you obtain a paste. Once you’ve made a paste you can apply it directly to your face for about 30- 45 minutes and then wash off. Apply a moisturizer thereafter.

What these ingredients do:

Activated charcoal draws bacteria, poisons, chemicals, dirt and other micro- particles to the surface of the skin, helping you to achieve a flawless complexion and fight acne at the same time.

Honey : Honey is a naturally antibacterial, so it’s great for acne treatment and prevention, its full of antioxidants, it is great for slowing down aging. It is extremely moisturizing and soothing, so it helps create a glow and a flawless complexion. Honey is clarifying because it opens up pores making them easy to unclog.

Your pores will thank you later!

P.S. if you try out this mask, do let me know if it had the same effect on your skin, and you welcome.

Is the Silisponge the new Beauty Blender?

I’m sure you’ve heard and seen all the fuss about this weird little clear object which resembles plastic and all the beauty gurus have been ravishing about how its changing their game of makeup. I too like most of you seen all this, but I wasn’t sold on a small, weird little plastic hanging my makeup game but being the curious being that I am, I obtained a Silisponge.

When it arrived I was astonished at how it looked, but it felt really soft and extremely cool on my hand. I was extremely sceptical about using it, and it lied on my table for a few weeks until recently, when I was obliged to use it as all my blenders were just washed, little had I known that this small, weird plastic would change my life!

The SiliSponge

The Silisponge is at first a bit challenging to use but once you get the hang of it, your face will thank you! I promise! Silisponge uses about a quarter of the amount of foundation that you usually use with a brush or blender, if you apply the normal amount which you usually use you will notice that the silisponge doesn’t work and it won’t blend because there’s way too much product. You have to actually get the hang of the amount of product you need in order for the sponge to work. This see through plastic is made out of silicone and encapsulated in a super- flexible material which called thermoplastic polyurethane, and this allows your products such as foundation, concealer, highlighter or creamy blush not to soak thus using less product.

And that’s not even the best part of the SiliSponge! Unlike your other applicators, its super easy to clean. You can rinse it clean with water and soap, wipe it with a clean cloth or if you in a hurry, you can wipe it with one of  your makeup wipe. That’s the absolute best part of the SiliSponge, you can wash or wipe and be on the go, the moment you are done! Unlike other applicators where you have to wait for hours. The only thing which I don’t like about the SiliSponge is that its a bit challenging blending around the nose and the inner corner of your eye, its going to take a little bit more practise to get the hang of that.

My verdict: Apart from that, I love the Silisponge and I do recommend going and getting yourself one immediately!

Hello Dolls.

Do not fear! Yours truly is about to enlighten you and your skin, and Oh you’re welcome!

The Konjac Sponge

That little brown thing (its actually black) in the picture above is how the konjac sponge looks like.

The Konjac Potato or Konnyaku is a native plant in Asia and can be found growing wild at very high altitudes. Konjac contains 97% water, is rich in minerals and low in calories which makes it a natural food source. Konjack is also pH neautral which therefere leaves your skin looking perfectly balanced. The konnyaku is over 1,500 years old and has been used as medicine, food, a beauty product. The Konjac sponge was orginally created for delicated baby skin.

Interesting right?

Apart from the history of the Konjac, it contains an endless amount of benefits:

  • 100% natural fibres
  • Packed with mineral and antioxidants
  • Its non- toxic
  • 100% cruelty free
  • Its made naturally and its environmentally safe

The konjac sponge has literally changed my life and my skin! Its extremely gentle on the skin and works so much better than scrubs and it can be used for daily exfoliation, you may use it with your face wash when washing your face daily. Once you use it with your face wash, whilst washing and exfoliating you will be able to gently remove your makeup, without a hustle. After using a Konjac sponge daily for a week, my skin was much smoother and a bit more radiant. I could definitely feel and see a difference in my skin, after using it just for a week and I know if my skin could speak it would be expressing its gratitude profusely.

How to use it: Soak the sponge in water until its softer and fully expanded. Then remove the excess water by gently pressing the sponge in between the palms of your hand. Use in a circular motion on your face for a few minutes.

If you don’t own one, you need to get your hands on one! Your skin will thank you later. Its a small investment to ensure you have beautiful skin each day. I, honestly cannot imagine how my skin has survived without the konjac all this time!

I wish I knew this before getting Eyelash Extensions

HAPPY NEW YEAR DOLLS!

img_20161229_124414

I hope each and every one of you had a lovely festive season, and I wish you all the best for the upcoming year. I would also like to thank each and everyone of you for keeping up with my blog, I know I haven’t had the best track record on blogging but hey it’s a new year and I’m going to try and catch up. Today I’m going to be writing about eyelash extensions and my experiences and knowledge thereof.

Eyelash extensions are amazing, they take your makeup and your face to another level and ensures that you always are on point even on your-not-so-pretty days. There is however a downside to getting your eyelashes done, which I wish I had known prior to getting them done.

If you are reading this and have no idea what eyelash extensions are or what I’m talking about, what world are you living in?

Well, let me break it down for you. Eyelash extensions are individual lashes which  are applied to your natural lashes which enhances the length, thickness and fullness of your own lashes, its usually done by a certified technician, you can do it by yourself but its a tedious task; these extensions which are done by a technician will cost you an arm, yes, really! its quite expensive, although totally worth it and it will last for about 4-6 weeks or less. False eyelashes and eyelash extensions are not the same thing, false eyelashes can be taken off immediately after wearing them, whereas lash extensions lasts for quite a while.

The perk of having these lash extensions is that you look fabulous all the time without even trying, you even wake up fabulous! Who doesn’t love waking up that way! However it takes hours to get them done, and you might have to lay down with your eyes closed for up to three hours which makes you quite cringy!

You also might have to alter the way you sleep, if you sleep on your face on in any other weird face position, when you wake up your eyelash extensions are good be all weird, heading in all directions. In the morning when you wake up, to wash your face you will have to be extremely careful around the eye area and when you shower too. If you are like me and shower more then twice a day then they don’t last as long and they not as pretty after each time I shower.

And did I mention that they are quite high maintenance? Each day you are required to brush out your lashes, I used an old mascara wand. After over two weeks, you most likely will have to go fill them in as the lashes may start falling off, and it could cost up to R200,00 or more, depending on the eyelash clinic. Also its quite challenging putting on eyeliner and removing off your eye makeup has to be done with make-up remover wipes, and should be done carefully as a lash could come off whilst you wiping.

Lastly, when you have extensions on, your normal eyelashes don’t grow and frankly when I took them off they looked shorter; if you continuously have extensions your eyelashes will be like little stubbles. Each eyelash starts falling off on their own, but if you do decide to take them out on your own cos as they start falling out it looks like spider webs, sort of, then you can use baby oil to carefully take it, however this can be extremely painful.

Yes, I do wish I knew this before I got extensions, although I don’t think I would have changed my mind, because lets face it, lashes are everything! I will most likely go and do them once again, although I’ll now know what to expect.

What are your thoughts or experiences regarding lash extensions? I’d love to hear about it!
