Your guide to applying cream eyeshadow

A couple of years ago, I purchased a cream Essence eyeshadow. It was in a small round tub, and it was a silverish grey. I liked the color when I seen it the first time. This little tub sat in my draw for years, and in the beginning of the year I was packing all my products and I had a look at it; it wasn’t very creamy and unfortunately I had to get rid of it. Something which I hate doing even if I’m not using the product!

After that I stuck to powder shadows, until I seen the Kyshadows in Kylie’s Holiday Edition, and I fell in love! I had to get my hands on these little tubs. After months of saving up I was finally able to get my hands on these products. And yes! It was so worth the wait. The colors and pigmentation are amazing.

When I first tried these products I had no idea that cream eyeshadow cannot be applied the same way that powder shadows are applied, and after an application in less then half an hour the product creased.

I was quite angry and disappointed and I thought something could possibly be wrong with the product. I then thought if this product costs so much it should at least be working, little did I know that I wasn’t applying it properly!  After many failed applications, I decided that I needed to do something about this! There had to be a way for it to look good on me.

After testing and trying out many different methods, I finally came up with something that actually works and guarantees the product to stay on your eyes for an extremely long period of time.

  1. This is the most important rule of cream shadow: apply it using your finger! You may use a small flat brush but for it to actually sit, use your finger!
  2. Apply a concealer to your eyelids, this could be a cream or liquid concealer and then use a damp Beautyblender to blender the product in.
  3. Then apply a dab of eyeshadow primer, just a teeny tiny bit not a little bit more.
  4. Once you have done that, apply an eyeshadow that is the same color as your skin, I used a foundation sponge to apply and blend the eyeshadow.
  5. If you are going to be applying a powder eyeshadow, then you need to apply it in this step. You cannot apply a powder shadow after you have applied the cream shadow, so ensure your apply all your powder products before you apply the cream eyeshadow.
  6. The cream shadow is applied last, using your fingertip to spread and pat the product to how to you want it to be.
  7. I then apply a fixing powder to my eyelid.
  8. Lastly, I use a fixing spray so that it can stay in place.

Yes I know it sounds like a lot of work, but these are some steps that need to be done in order for the cream shadow to stay in place. Once I figured this out, I’m constantly using my cream shadows as I don’t have to work about it creasing.

Product Review: The Body Shop Fresh Nude Foundation

It’s been a while since I last blogged or reviewed a product. So, here goes…

While I was out shopping recently, I was browsing through the skincare range of The Body Shop until this product caught my eye. It was a neat little bottle of foundation.

I’ve always loved The Body Shop skincare products, but I wasn’t too sure about their makeup range, although if they were putting in just as much effort into a makeup range the results would be amazing.

Although there was a tad bit of uncertainty in the back of my head, I thought, “Oh what the hell? The worst that could happen is that it doesn’t work as well as another foundation or doesn’t blend as well but then you can just mix it with another product.”

And well being the being that I am, I know that if it wasn’t according to my liking I would most likely mix with a whole bunch of other products till it came to my liking because makeup is expensive and you can’t just throw products away, especially if its still new.

I ended up buying it.

And to my amazement it exceeded my expectations. (Well, I didn’t have a lot of them anyways.)

The bottle was a tiny bit smaller then the usual foundation bottle, but it was quite neat and the foundation easily came out without creating a mess unlike other foundation bottles. I applied it with a brush and then used a damp beauty blender.

The foundation is a creamy formula, its extremely light weight although it can be buildable but it does feel like your natural skin on your face. I wore it the entire day to work and it felt amazing on my skin. It was also able to cover up everything include the redness around my nose which has become extremely visible lately. It covers all the redness and breakouts without it looking too fake. Its extremely natural and it does make your skin look good without you having to plaster on makeup. Its definitely durable and can last the entire day and night if it is set properly without it getting cakey.

I haven’t even mentioned the best part about this product; it doesn’t have the typical foundation smell but rather a really light, fresh scent and this fresh scent is left on your skin the entire day! I literally, cannot get enough of the smell its amazing!

For dewy, fresh and natural looking skin I would definitely recommend The Body Shop Fresh Nude Foundation.

My verdict: 4.2/5

P.S. I’d love to hear what you think about this product if you’ve tried it.

Is the Silisponge the new Beauty Blender?

I’m sure you’ve heard and seen all the fuss about this weird little clear object which resembles plastic and all the beauty gurus have been ravishing about how its changing their game of makeup. I too like most of you seen all this, but I wasn’t sold on a small, weird little plastic hanging my makeup game but being the curious being that I am, I obtained a Silisponge.

When it arrived I was astonished at how it looked, but it felt really soft and extremely cool on my hand. I was extremely sceptical about using it, and it lied on my table for a few weeks until recently, when I was obliged to use it as all my blenders were just washed, little had I known that this small, weird plastic would change my life!

The SiliSponge

The Silisponge is at first a bit challenging to use but once you get the hang of it, your face will thank you! I promise! Silisponge uses about a quarter of the amount of foundation that you usually use with a brush or blender, if you apply the normal amount which you usually use you will notice that the silisponge doesn’t work and it won’t blend because there’s way too much product. You have to actually get the hang of the amount of product you need in order for the sponge to work. This see through plastic is made out of silicone and encapsulated in a super- flexible material which called thermoplastic polyurethane, and this allows your products such as foundation, concealer, highlighter or creamy blush not to soak thus using less product.

And that’s not even the best part of the SiliSponge! Unlike your other applicators, its super easy to clean. You can rinse it clean with water and soap, wipe it with a clean cloth or if you in a hurry, you can wipe it with one of  your makeup wipe. That’s the absolute best part of the SiliSponge, you can wash or wipe and be on the go, the moment you are done! Unlike other applicators where you have to wait for hours. The only thing which I don’t like about the SiliSponge is that its a bit challenging blending around the nose and the inner corner of your eye, its going to take a little bit more practise to get the hang of that.

My verdict: Apart from that, I love the Silisponge and I do recommend going and getting yourself one immediately!

The Konjac Sponge: Your gateway to flawless skin

Hello Dolls.

If you haven’t met the konjac sponge, you need  to re-evaluate your life choices! Yes, I’m serious!

No idea what a konjac sponge is?

Do not fear! Yours truly is about to enlighten you and your skin, and Oh you’re welcome!

The Konjac Sponge

That little brown thing (its actually black) in the picture above is how the konjac sponge looks like.

The Konjac Potato or Konnyaku is a native plant in Asia and can be found growing wild at very high altitudes. Konjac contains 97% water, is rich in minerals and low in calories which makes it a natural food source. Konjack is also pH neautral which therefere leaves your skin looking perfectly balanced. The konnyaku is over 1,500 years old and has been used as medicine, food, a beauty product. The Konjac sponge was orginally created for delicated baby skin.

Interesting right?

Apart from the history of the Konjac, it contains an endless amount of benefits:

  • 100% natural fibres
  • Packed with mineral and antioxidants
  • Its non- toxic
  • 100% cruelty free
  • Its made naturally and its environmentally safe

The konjac sponge has literally changed my life and my skin! Its extremely gentle on the skin and works so much better than scrubs and it can be used for daily exfoliation, you may use it with your face wash when washing your face daily. Once you use it with your face wash, whilst washing and exfoliating you will be able to gently remove your makeup, without a hustle. After using a Konjac sponge daily for a week, my skin was much smoother and a bit more radiant. I could definitely feel and see a difference in my skin, after using it just for a week and I know if my skin could speak it would be expressing its gratitude profusely.

How to use it: Soak the sponge in water until its softer and fully expanded. Then remove the excess water by gently pressing the sponge in between the palms of your hand. Use in a circular motion on your face for a few minutes.

If you don’t own one, you need to get your hands on one! Your skin will thank you later. Its a small investment to ensure you have beautiful skin each day. I, honestly cannot imagine how my skin has survived without the konjac all this time!

Ponds Perfect Colour Complex Review

Hello Dolls.

I do apologize once again for not regularly blogging or having a set day on which I put up blog posts. I will try and change that as soon as I have settled in and have worked on my schedule. I haven’t been doing enough product reviews, so I thought its about time I did one once again, and why not start off with a product which is a go-to product for many of us?

Yes, I’m sure you read the heading and know what product I’m talking about; The Ponds Skincare Range or rather specifically the Ponds Perfect Color Complex Range.

2014-03-05-07-39-13-2

I’ve always been prone to uneven skin tone on my face and I have tried many products but to my dismay they haven’t really worked, I then came across Ponds and I could see drastic changes in my face which I was thrilled about!

I first came across Ponds a while back. I had been noticing that the African women had beautiful skin, it didn’t have any marks or pimples, it was so even and flawless they didn’t have to apply bottles of foundation and concealer. After I spent a considerable amount of time noticing this, I too wanted to be part of this beautiful skin clan and get my fair share of even skin, so when I went to Clicks I paid close attention to what skincare products they were using. I noticed that the majority of these ladies were buying Ponds.

Being the curious being that I am, I then also decided that I had to try these Ponds products as it seemed to be working wonders on different skin types. Thrilled at my decision, I rushed home with my purchase and started using the products immediately.

After a few days I noticed the difference in my skin, it was much more even and there was less marks, it was just brighter and prettier. Each day when I woke up, the changes on my face were even more noticeable and I, not once regretted my rash decision to purchase these products.

Skincare requires dedication and has to be carried out religiously every day. And well I don’t have the best track record for following a skincare regiment every day and some days I unintentionally miss these routines, I too missed a day or two of this skin care routine which I was following. I then noticed the change in my face!

I missed about two days of using the product and my skin was actually getting darker and it wasn’t looking pretty any longer, noticing these changes I then went back to using it and could see my face was back to being bright and beautiful. Intentionally a few days later, I decided not to use Ponds and within a few days my skin was darker and horrible and on some places my even skin tone was clearly visible. This is when I realized that my skin had become addicted to this product! I was so blinded by this beautiful skin that I was obtaining, I didn’t realize that without it my skin would never be the same and I would have to most likely dedicate my life to this product in order to keep up my skin looking good.

I understand that skincare routines have to be done each day, but once you have stopped using a product for a day or a few weeks it shouldn’t be leaving your skin in a state worst off then what is was before you used it.

These are just my thoughts and experiences of the product, have you had a similar experience with the Ponds skin care range?

Product Review: Lime Crime Velvetines

img_20161025_1

I received these Lime Crime lip colors a over a month ago but I haven’t worn it. I swatched it when I first got it and loved it, I used it on a few of my clients and loved how it looked but I still hadn’t tried them. About two weeks ago I decided well I can’t let these lippies stand so I decided to try them.

img_20161024_1

Swatches of the Lime Crime Velvetines

When I first put it on it felt really glossy on my lips, and I thought well aren’t these suppose to be matte? After about ten minutes it turned matte and looked amazing! I loved the pigmentation and how matte it is. Yes it is a bit pricey but it looks really good so why not splurge? Another great thing I discovered when wearing this was how long it stays, you could eat a whole steak and sip mocktails the entire night and it would just stay as it is! If you happen to fall off to sleep, you will wake up with it looking exactly the same as how it was when you just put it (not that I fell asleep with it). A facial wipe doesn’t just remove the lip color, you will need makeup remover and a lot of cotton swabs. I always like my lips to be moisturized, it doesn’t have to be the whole bottle of Vaseline but I do like it to be moisturized. The glitch on the Lime Crimes is that after a few hours your lips don’t feel as moisturized, and might actually feel dry even though the pigmentation is amazing. I put a bit of Vaseline just to get a bit of moisture and I was good to go. Apart from that little glitch, I do still think its amazing.

Verdict: 3.5/5 because of the small glitch apart from that its worth the purchase.

It’s a bit pricey if you mostly buy drugstore products, but it doesn’t cost as much as other high-end products. Its very matte, the colors are amazing; they are also extremely pigmented and long lasting. Are there better lippies out there? There’s always a better one, but for the price you getting a really good lip product.Worth the splurge? Definitely
